Carol Ann Keating Reichwein, 70, peacefully entered into rest Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020 at the Villages Regional Hospital, Lady Lake, Fla.
Born Dec. 4, 1950, in Pottsville, Pa. Carol was the second of four children born to the late Russell B. Sr. and Juena Carestia Keating.
After graduating from Pottsville Area High School, Carol earned a Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Pennsylvania State University. She put her education to work at the United Cerebral Palsy Association in Pottsville; then St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. She returned home to Central Pa. to care for her parents, eventually accepting a position with the Harrisburg School District where she honed her grant-writing skills. Carol later started her own consulting company with a focus on grant writing for school districts with limited resources. Most of her life's work was linked to helping those who could not help themselves, especially in education inequality. A gifted writer and compassionate businessperson, Carol was truly dedicated to improving access to public education and vital resources necessary to helping children and families.
Affectionately called "Aunt C.A." by her nieces and nephews, and "Carolina" by her Italian family, she had a beautiful laugh and clever wit that inspired everyone she encountered. A devout Catholic, Carol was a member of St.
Timothy's Parish in Lady Lake, Fla. Aunt CA's greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. She was intelligent, kind, persistent, creative, and passionate; and above all, she was thoughtful and generous beyond measure, especially to her family. She treated life as an adventure and never missed the opportunity to take on a new challenge. Carol was a shining example of life and love.
Carol was raised in Palo Alto, PA, surrounded by a large extended family of Uncles, Aunts, cousins, and friends. She was very proud of her Coal Region upbringing and equally proud of her Irish and Italian heritage, taking numerous trips to Francavilla Al Mare, Italy, to foster and maintain family relationships for generations to follow. In every sense of the word, she was a caring bridge from the old world to the new, connecting all of us in ways that only Carol could.
She was predeceased by her brother Russell B. (Bonnie, surviving) Keating Jr.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 12 years, Paul Reichwein of Lady Lake, Fla.; brother, Kevin J. and Teresa (Torpey) Keating of Pottsville, Pa.; and brother, Michael R. and Catherine (Notaro) Keating of Sanford, Fla.
Carol had 11 loving nieces and nephews: Russell III (Sarah), Brian (Rachelle), Kevin (Helen), Kyle (Abbey), Alicia (Damon) and Patrick; and she had eight adoring great nephews: Joseph, Michael, Brody, Russell IV, Luca, Noah, Connor, and Eli, and one great niece, Grace.
Carol is also survived by her husband Paul's children: Paul C. and Barbara Reichwein of East Petersburg, PA, and Jack and Margaret J. Gorham of Kingston, PA, and their respective families. She also leaves behind her beloved dog Sterling.
Memorial Mass will be held at St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Community in Lady Lake, Fla. on January 15, 2021, at 8:30 AM. The mass will be live streamed for those who can attend virtually at www.sttimothycc.com.
