Carol J. Adams, 77, formerly of Crothersville, Indiana and currently residing in Crown Point, left her earthly home Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 in the same way as she lived her life, surrounded by people who loved her. Holding her and each other's hands, her children prayed her into Heaven as she passed.
Carol was a loving Mom, Grammy and Friend. To all who knew her generous spirit, giving heart and listening ear, she will be missed more than words can express.
She single handedly kept the United States Post Office afloat, the greeting card industry in business and the art of the handwritten note alive. She knew the act of writing, stamping and mailing a heartfelt sentiment had unexplainable meaning and impact, so she did it often. A gift-giving aficionado, she loved to give her family thoughtful presents, but also enjoyed learning about people she encountered to later find the perfect little token with which to surprise them.
She was talented in many ways, an avid crafter, cross-stitcher, quilt-maker yet easily could have had a successful career as an interior decorator or talented artist. She loved to cook, bake, collect bears and tend to the most incredible flower garden, which served double duty to keep her tan golden brown. Silly, smart and sweet are the three words that best describes this Indianapolis 500 Fan, Hallmark Christmas and Horror Flick movie lover, crossword puzzle solver and frequent Cracker Barrel (the crack bar) and Red Robin customer.
Born in East Chicago, Indiana on December 15, 1947, the daughter of Jeanne (Piper) and Ernest Walters, both preceded her in death.
Carol attended grade school in Hessville, Indiana at the school best known for the "tongue stuck on frozen pole" scene in The Christmas Story. As a freshman in high school, her parents did the unthinkable and moved, forcing her to transfer from Morton to Whiting High School where she met the love of her life, Larry E. Adams, who also preceded her in death.
She had many different jobs throughout the years - teachers aid, bookkeeper, and Queen Anne Candy assembly line worker where she dropped the cherries in the chocolate. But her favorite and most fulfilling jobs were always as Mom to three kids and Grammy to four grandsons. In recent years, she took on the role of being "Groupie Grammy" to her Grandson's band, Wasted Potential. As Harper's biggest fan, she often listened to his music and tried to book him locally so she could see him sing live instead of just online.
Survived by her three children: Michael E. Adams (Mary Anne Manning) of Hobart, Indiana, Mark E. (Leslie) Adams of Crothersville, Indiana, and Buffy D. Adams of Crown Point, Indiana; and four grandchildren: Conner (Keeley) Adams of Henryville, Indiana, Parker (Akaya) Adams of Scottsburg, Indiana, and Harper Adams and Tucker Adams of Crothersville, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 27th at 2:00 PM EST at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 110 E Howard St., Crothersville, IN 47229 with visitation from Noon until the time of the service. Friends may visit Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory on Saturday, October 26th from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM EST and/or Graveside for the Love & Light Send Off on Monday, October 28th at 2:00 PM CST at Elmwood Cemetery, 1413 169th St., Hammond, IN 46324.
