In Loving Memory of Vivian DiLillo
Carmen Vivian Rodriguez DiLillo, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and educator died on November 5, 2023, in Columbus, OH. She was 82. Born in Havana, Cuba, on December 7, 1940, Vivian left Cuba with her family when she was 14 to start a new life in the United States, where she attended high school in Lakeland, FL.
Vivian was a shining example of determination and dedication, graduating from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She later earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at Rutgers University, where she met the love of her life, Leonard DiLillo, at a summer workshop. They married in 1965.
Together, Vivian and Leonard raised their two children, David and Vicki, in Danville, KY. For many years, Vivian taught Spanish at Centre College and in 1990 received an award for excellence in teaching. She and Leonard established the Leonard and Vivian DiLillo Spanish Prize, awarded annually to the most outstanding Spanish major.
In their retirement, Vivian and Leonard settled in Dublin, OH. They enjoyed time with their daughter, Vicki, her husband Eric Batterton, and their grandson Benjamin, while indulging their love for travel, old movies, and gardening. Her sense of humor, irreverence, and listening skills endeared her to all.
Vivian is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Leonard DiLillo; their children, David (Jenny Perry) DiLillo and Vicki (Eric Batterton) DiLillo; and her dear sister, Vicki Walker. Her life was further enriched by three grandchildren, Olivia DiLillo, Benjamin Roel, and Miles DiLillo.
In memory of Vivian, memorial contributions can be made to the Leonard and Vivian DiLillo Spanish Prize at Centre College, Office of Development & Alumni Engagement, 600 West Walnut St., Danville, KY, 40422 or https://gifts.centre.edu. This generous gesture will honor her passion for Spanish and education, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire.
