Born in Blount County, Alabama to Lula Belle Jordan and William Pliney Tolbert he grew up with brothers Ira and Eldridge and sister Vida. He enlisted in the US Army at Fort McClellan, Alabama and served with Company K, 103 Infantry Regiment in the Pacific. After honorable discharge he married Ruby Cook in Shelby County, Texas. They made their home in Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas where he was employed as a Machinist for US Steel. On February 8, 1973 he passed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur at the age of 60 of a heart attack. He and Ruby rest in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas.
