Carlo George DeMarco died after a brief illness on December 7, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jane DeMarco, and is survived by his four children and spouses: Nancy & Steve Salmon, Drs. Daniel DeMarco & Cara East, Janice & Rick Ehrhart, Lynda & Carlos Aguayo and his 5 Grandchildren and spouses: Katie & Nico Barros, Jon & Christie Ehrhart, Michael DeMarco, Connor & Katie McGuire, and Casey McGuire.
Carlo was born on March 16, 1927. He was raised in Hazleton, Pennsylvania and attended Pennsylvania State University. While in class, he met his future wife Jane after playing a prank on her by tying her dress to her chair. He was drafted into the army on VE day and was supposed to ship out to the Pacific on VJ day (he says the enemies heard he was coming). After the war, he returned to Penn State to earn a BS in Chemistry and then began working in the textile industry. Jane and Carlo married in 1952 after 8 years of courtship, and in 1954 Carlo began working at the US Army Natick Laboratories in Massachusetts. He developed early waterproof fabrics for the military and holds patents for his inventions, which he had proudly framed in his office. In 1968, he earned his Masters degree in Textile Chemistry from the Lowell Technological Institute while raising his four children. After finishing his thesis, the family moved to Dallas, Texas where Carlo began work at Haggar clothing company, rising to become Executive Vice President for Quality Control. He loved his time at Haggar and retired in 1993 after 25 years.
Carlo was an avid golfer. He played at Royal Oaks Country Club and boasted five holes-in-one. After retirement, he volunteered on the board of the Salvation Army and was an engineer on the McKinney Avenue Trolley. Carlo spent his latter years as a popular resident of Five Star Senior Living Center, where he was known for his charm, his wit, and his mean poker game. He was a talented scientist, an aficionado of bad jokes, a great friend, and a loving father and grandfather.
A memorial service will be held on December 28, 2021 at 3:30pm at the Five Star Premier Residences at 5455 La Sierra Drive, Dallas, Texas, 75231. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
