Carla Jean Lewis, 71, of Frederick, died February 25, 2023, at Frederick Health Hospital.
Carla's story started June 14, 1951, in Cumberland MD. She attended Fort Hill High School. The family moved to Frederick County, MD in 1967 where she attended and graduated from Linganore High School in 1969. Carla then attended Frostburg State Teacher's College in their Music program and then Frederick Community College, graduating from the Registered Nursing program.
Carla started her career at Sibley Memorial Hospital as a surgical nurse. She moved to Denver, CO and worked at Denver Hospital as well as an ambulance corner worker for the racetrack there. Carla moved again and worked in Chattanooga, TN. Returning to Frederick in 1981 where she was employed by Gettysburg Hospital. She later took to Geriatric Nursing at several area nursing homes.
Carla was married to Joseph Ganley in 1972, they were divorced two years later, only to reunite 20 years later through Facebook and have lived happily together since.
Carla was married, later divorced, to Joseph Underwood of Chattanooga and had two children, Tara D. Underwood Kyle and Phillip S. Underwood both of Frederick. She also has grandchildren Vincent Kyle, Lillianna Underwood and Logan Sheridan.
She also leaves to cherish her memory: brothers and sisters, Jeanne Lewis, of New Windsor, Carlton Lewis (Karen), of Hagerstown, William "Billy" Lewis of Frederick, Krista Lewis Appleby and John Getz of New Market; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Carla was preceded by her: parents, Carlton and Dorothy Brinkman Lewis; and brother, Terry Alan Lewis.
Services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023,at Rollins Life Celebration Center, Viewing from 10-11 am, Services at 11 am. 330 Catoctin Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to "Doctors without Borders" in Carla's name.
