Carl Edward Smith of Seminole, FL passed away after a lengthy illness on May 9, 2022, at the age of 84 years. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Lee Powell Smith. He is also survived by his children Carla Smith Copp of Seminole, FL, Tara S. Nichols (Gary) of Merritt Island, FL, Vincent Smith of St. Petersburg, FL, and granddaughter Veronica Spake of North Bethesda, MD. He also leaves behind his sisters Faye Coleman of Red Bluffs, CA and Betty Harris of Deep Run, NC, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. He is predeceased by his grandson Tyler Spake of Merritt Island, FL. Carl was the first graduate of the newly created EMT program at St. Petersburg Junior College in the early 1970s. He went on to own the Florida Ambulance and Atlas Ambulance companies. Carl was a well-respected business owner and mentor, and his loss is felt by the many people he trained and nurtured over the years. He was a pioneer in the industry and his foresight and entrepreneurship paved the way for those who came after him.
