Carl Leslie Long
March 22, 1929 - November 3, 2024
Carl Leslie Long, 95, of Lynchburg, Virginia, died Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the Summit Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness.
Born in Carrolton, Maryland, on March 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph Kenneth and Evelyn Viola (Harris) Long. He was the husband of the late Linda Lee (Schultz) Long for 70 years. He attended Church of the Open Door in Westminster (Maryland) and Northwest Baptist Church in Reisterstown (Maryland) for years. He and Linda enjoyed many services together at Thomas Road Baptist Church (Lynchburg, Va.).
A graduate of Westminster High School, he served his country as a teenage civilian during the war years, driving German prisoners of war to farms near his home for work assignments. After early careers in refrigeration and in banking, he became a founding partner and an account executive for RMS, Inc., a hydraulic crane and truck body sales and service company. He devoted years of service to Hampstead Youth for Christ, driving hundreds of teenagers to local, regional, and national rallies and events.
Carl was a faithful, loving, and generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was passionately committed in His service to God and to others. A lover of auctions, model trains, and Gaither gospel music, he treasured his antiques, including a trombone and a player piano that he often played for household guests. Carl and Linda's home was filled with much joy and music, and they hosted many guests over the years.
He is survived by daughters Carla L. and husband Donald T. Sloan of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Evangeline F. and husband Donald H. Alban Jr. of Forest, Virginia, and by grandchildren John-Wesley G. and wife Sofia E. (Sellers) Sloan, Abigail E. Alban, Annelise J. Alban, Elaina E. Alban, and Donald H. Alban III. He is survived by brother K. Wayne Long and sister D. Faith (Long) Scolnick brother-in-law Roger L. Schultz, and many loving nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by his brothers R. Earl Long and Charles C. Long and by his brothers-in-law Earl W. Schultz Jr. and Aubrey M. Schultz.
