Carey Albert Kinney, 84, of Glade Hill, VA was called home by his Heavenly Father on January 9, 2022. He was born March 17, 1937, in Wilson, North Carolina to Albert Beecher Kinney and Lillie (Ward) Kinney.
Carey attended Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, NC. He proudly followed in his father's footsteps continuing his education at North Carolina State University and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Carey moved to Northern Virginia and began a 37-year career working to solve energy problems for the United States Government. He met the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Beatrice "Trudy" Kinney, on a blind date in High Point, NC. Together they raised 3 beautiful children in Fairfax, Virginia until they relocated to Smith Mountain Lake after his retirement.
Putting faith and family before everything else, Carey was a faithful member of both Messiah United Methodist Church in Springfield, Va. and later Crafts United Methodist Church in Glade Hill where he was honored to serve as chairman of trustees. Carey had a passion for the outdoors that originated with time spent with his grandfather and uncles on the family farm. He greatly loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, fellowshipping with friends, fishing, collecting guns, following politics, watching his Wolfpack compete in football and basketball, and vacationing with the family at Emerald Isle, NC.
Carey is survived by his beloved wife, Beatrice "Trudy" Kinney; brother, Neal Kinney; two daughters and one son and their spouses, Kathryn and Jason Gordon of Spotsylvania, Va., Allison Kinney and Hunter Woodard of Harrisonburg, Va., Jefferson and Kimberlee Kinney of Birmingham, AL; and grandchildren, Lily and William Gordon, Bennett, Finnley, and Colee Kinney, and Ashby Woodard.
