Captola "Cappy" Elaine Tadlock went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 4, 2022, while her family was by her side. She was born on July 7, 1942, in Odessa, Texas, to Lois Burleson Maples and Ben Ned Maples.
Everyone that knew Elaine was aware of her amazing strength. She was a hairdresser in her younger years, and she would not leave home until she looked like she stepped out of Vogue magazine. After raising four children, she ran a day care center out of her home for several years while obtaining her bachelor's degree in History. She taught elementary school for thirteen years and was an active member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She participated in CBS Bible study with her sister and closest friend, Pat Henderson. She and Pat loved their annual summer trips and traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. They left no historical marker unread! She was always ready to go, be it fishing with her grandchildren or on the lookout for hummingbirds at the cabin in Ft. Davis. Elaine loved and was a master of gardening and cooking. The endless hours she spent in her kitchen preparing superb holiday meals was her special gift to her children and grandchildren. Christmas was her most treasured holiday.
She is survived by her four children, Andrea Fine and Michael of Abilene, George Bridges, Jr., and Michael Slaymaker of Orlando, Florida, Rhonda King and Kevin of Midland, Cristy Cates and Jeff of Midland; sister, Pat Henderson of Midland; brother, Ben Maples of Gouldbusk; grandchildren, Stewart Mann and Britney, Lauren Bridges White, Jeremy Bridges and Cody Brown, Bryce King and Alyssa Baeza, Zane King, and Ashley Daniels Morgan and Michael; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind four great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, U. M. Tadlock, Jr.; brothers, Eugene Maples and Charles Cobb; sister, LaVona Hodges; her beloved grandson, Zackary Glasscock; and her most treasured companion, Sparky.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Midland, Manor Park and the special Vogel Center nurses and staff who deeply loved and cared for her.
The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 4-8 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. A memorial service will be Friday, June 10, 2022 at 1 PM at Hubbard-Kelly followed by inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
