Calvin Lamar Rainey, 92, of Duluth, Georgia passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at his home.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday October 27, 2021 at Peachtree Memorial Park, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Peachtree Corners, Georgia 30092 with Reverend Steve Pritchett officiating.
Born May 19, 1929 in Duluth, Georgia, Lamar was the son of the late Ancil Monroe Rainey and Ruth Gertrude (Wofford) Rainey. A lifelong resident of Duluth and follower of the Baptist faith, he graduated high school in Duluth and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Lamar married Shirley Anne Lacy on January 10, 1954. He worked as a welder and heavy equipment repairman all his life, but he truly loved working his vegetable garden and was known in the Duluth area for his tomatoes. Remembered by his family as a "huge Atlanta Braves fan", Lamar also enjoyed fishing in Steinhatchee, Florida and Georgia's Lake Sidney Lanier.
Lamar is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Rainey; a daughter and son in law, Sheila and Bob Malcay; 2 sons and daughters in law, Steve and Jacquita Rainey and Lacy and Kim Rainey; 2 grandchildren, Brooke Kinder (Danny) and Ryan Coleman; and 2 great grandchildren, Jamieson Kinder and Lincoln Kinder. In addition to his parents, Lamar was preceded in death by his son, Randy Rainey, and 6 siblings, Earnest Carl Rainey, John Ancil Rainey, Dorsey Arron Rainey, James Fletcher Rainey, Gwynay Pearl Bowers and Mattie Ruth Roper.
