Cal Lum
Join us in celebrating Cal's life—a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Please share your thoughts, photos and memories here.
Cal was born in San Francisco in 1940 to Margaret and Harry Lum, brother of Frank and Gwendolyn. He grew up in Chinatown and attended George Washington High School. He met Lily and was married in 1961. Their only child, Kevin was born in 1973. During these times Cal worked first as an apprentice at the SF Naval Shipyard at Hunter's Point, and finally as an electronic technician for State of California Highway Patrol in Oakland. He happily retired in 2002.
He always had a passion for the mechanics of how things work. He loved to fix things. He loved fishing, vintage cars and listening to music (the Oldies, Herbie Mann, Creedence Clearwater, Joe Satriani and the Howling Wolf.) Mostly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
We will remember him for his laugh, his true gentle nature and his willingness to always lend a hand to help others.
Cal passed away at home peacefully, surrounded by Lil, Kevin, Dorka (daughter-in-law), Linus and Ida (grandchildren) on the evening of August 22nd.
Due to Covid-19 there will be no in-person memorial for Cal. To mourn and celebrate his life please feel free to add your messages and memories to this page.
