Calvin James Alley born September 13, 1935, in Flin Flon Manitoba, Canada to Henry and Katherine (Toews) Alley. The family relocated to Montevideo, MN in 1938 to his grandfather's farm. He then lived in Minneapolis, MN for a short period of time before enlisting in the Army where he served as an Intelligence Specialist in occupied Germany from 1955-1957. He was a member of the Milaca American Legion Post 178 for 40 years, at one time serving as the Vice Commander.
He married Mary Elizabeth Paull August 1, 1957, in Butte, Montana at the Mountain View Methodist Church. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. He worked in the copper mines in Butte, Montana until he moved to Princeton, MN in 1958. In 1967, he and Mary relocated to the farm in Milaca where they raised their four children, John, Kathy, Melody, and Robert.
Calvin drove semi-truck for over 40 years in every state in the lower 48, and every Canadian province except Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. His passions include spending time with his family, traveling, raising a huge vegetable garden and fishing for trout in the Montana lakes and streams.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his children John (Susan) Alley, Big Stone City, SD, Kathy (Micky Huse) Alley, McGregor MN, Melody (Jim) Schram, Black Hawk, SD, Robert (Annette) Alley, Milaca MN and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth, father Henry Alley, mother Katherine Alley, brother Orville Alley and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Milaca United Methodist Church. Interment with full military honors followed at Baldwin Cemetery near Princeton.
