CE Grant, age 88, of Muleshoe, Texas died Sunday, January 8, 2023 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born March 8, 1934 in Gatesville, Texas to Cullen Edward and Maud Eliza Pierce Grant.
CE was the youngest of nine siblings. He graduated from high school and was drafted into the army. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he served as a forward artillery observer from 1955 to 1957. After he was discharged, CE worked for Moss-Gordin Lint Cleaner Company. He traveled all over the western United States installing the first lint cleaners in various cotton gins. He met Sharon Middlebrooks in 1961 in Lubbock, Texas and they were later married in Lubbock on March 1, 1963. They made their home at Westcamp in 1964. CE was a partner and manager of the Beck Gin from 1964 to 1986 and farmed cotton, corn and milo in the Westcamp area from 1965 until 2009. CE served 24 years as Bailey County Commissioner for precinct two. They moved into Muleshoe into 1987 and CE was always looking for ways to be active in the community. He helped take care of the local RV park and loved to greet travelers and tell them about the area. After retirement, CE ran parts for Ray Lee Equipment to stay busy.
CE was always active in the local community?from church functions, serving as an elected official, to even coaching some of the local teams when he was younger. CE was also a licensed pilot and loved to fly. He and his friend Bill traveled all over the world together and they also raised a few cattle. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Muleshoe. CE was a lifelong Cowboys fan and loved watching football?even reruns.
CE is preceded in death by his parents Cullen & Maud Grant, four brothers and three sisters.
CE is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Middlebrooks Grant. He is also survived by his son, Kevin Grant and wife, Renee of Fort Sumner, New Mexico; daughter Laurey Riney and husband, Ronny of Olton, Texas; and son Clay Grant and wife, Brittni of Muleshoe, Texas. CE is survived by 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Myrna Girard of Amarillo, Texas, multiple nieces, nephews and other family members.
A public viewing will be held from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Ellis Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jeff Coffman officiating. A private family internment will be held. Pallbearers will be the grandsons?Derek, Jace, Kade, & Jayton Riney, Rhett Grant and Justin Monzingo and Jett Black. Honorary pallbearers will include his many friends and family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in memory of CE Grant be given to the Oneita Wagnon Senior Center, 319 S. Main St., Muleshoe, TX 79347.
