Mr. Thornton passed away at home at the age of 76 on Friday, July 8th. A private inurnment will be held with his family.
Ed was born on December 4, 1945 in Plainview to C.E.( Ed senior) and Leota (Joplin) Thornton. He grew up in Plainview graduating from PHS in 1964. Ed married Karen George on June 15, 1968 in Plainview where they raised their family. Mr. Thornton worked in construction with J.Bassett Smith, High Plains Paves and Amarillo Road prior to moving in 1991 to Sulphur Springs and opened Thornton Contractors with his son in 1992. In 2010 he semi- retired and continued to contract work until full retirement.
Ed enjoyed traveling in his RV with his wife and dog, he enjoyed building things especially birdhouses for kids and grandkids and spending time with his family. In retirement Ed became known as the "Sheriff of Pampa Street" by his neighbors.
He is survived by his wife Karen, daughters, Tammy McWhorter (Eddie) of Hohenwald Tennessee, Buffie Michelle Yates (Mack) of Plainview and son Jody Thornton (Jill) of Sulphur Springs. Grandchildren, Marcus Ryan Helton, Devon Martinez (Kaley) Braxton Martinez, Jarrett Thornton (Hanna) Debra Thornton, Landon Thornton, and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Travis Thornton (Amy) and sister Linda Morris (Jack) both of Plainview. In-laws Wayne and Jean Newton of Sulphur Springs, Donnie George (Rae), Linda George, Charlene George.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Mike George.
