Byron F. Bond, 98, died Friday, Sep 12, 2020. He was born Oct 27, 1921 in Locust Grove, GA, and moved to The Villages, FL after his wife of 65 years, Helen, died in 2009.
Byron grew up on a farm in Georgia where he learned to do any job required. Those skills served him well the rest of his life. He graduated from McDonough High school and Stetson University. He joined the military in 1942 and served in the Air Force for twenty-seven years. He was stationed in Georgia, Texas, California, Pennsylvania, Okinawa, New York, Louisiana, and Washington DC. During that time, he had a variety of assignments including: Pilot, Education and Training Officer, Personnel Officer, R&D Administrator and Program and Planning Officer. He received his MBA Degree in 1961 from George Washington University. He retired from the USAF in 1969 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Subsequently he worked as a Systems Analyst for Vitro Laboratories in Maryland for an additional thirteen years.
He retired to Orlando in 1982 and was active in golf, local volunteer activities, and all things family. Family was the most important thing in his life. In the last few years before moving to The Villages, he gave up many activities to care for his ailing wife. Since moving to The Villages 11 years ago he returned to playing golf, took a refresher course in duplicate Bridge, became an active member of the New Covenant UMC and helped raise a guide dog puppy.
He is survived by his two sons and their wives: Howard and Diane Bond and Ben and Loretta Bond, both of The Villages; three grandchildren, Matthew; Andrew, and Rebecca, and five great-grandchildren, Raine, Isaac, Iden, Wyatt, and Allison. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and as the great grand-kids called him Supergrandad. He will be missed.
Services will be held on 9 Oct at 11AM, New Covenant UMC, 3470 Woodridge Drive, The Villages, FL, 32162.
