Burt Ernest Moody, born February 26, 1942, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Ruth and Clarence Moody, passed away on August 31, 2024 in Wilmington North Carolina. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, known for his generosity, kindness, and dedication to his family. Burt is survived by his son, Sean Moody and wife Jackie Makin Moody; daughter, Cheryl Moody and husband Christopher Barton; and stepchildren, Mark Duval and Kimberly Duval. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Brandon Moody, Olivia Duval, Liam Moody, Chase Barton, Tyler Barton, and Kyle Barton. Burt is also remembered by his brother, Gary, and sister, Justina. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Oreanna Churchill Moody.
Burt's life was marked by his entrepreneurial spirit as a successful business owner and developer, with homes in both North Carolina and Florida. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional achievements. A proud member of St. John's Masonic Lodge No. 1 in Wilmington, Burt was passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on August 7, 2012, and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on September 27, 2012. His dedication to Freemasonry was complemented by his role as a Shriner, reflecting his deep commitment to charitable causes and community service.
Burt will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and brethren for his love, kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Burt's life and accomplishments on September 14, 2024 at 10 am at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market Street in Wilmington, North Carolina 28401, followed by a gathering at the home of his daughter. In leu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor his memory to make donations to the American Heart Association.
