Burnic Michael "Mike" Owens, 74, husband of Janet Rushton Owens, died Sunday August 18, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Owens was born November 5, 1944 in Georgetown, a son of the late Launie B. Owens and Helen Anderson Owens.
Mr. Owens grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He served in the US Army and was in the Americal Division in Viet Nam. Mr. Owen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, where he served as a deacon as long as he was able. He worked for Georgetown Steel from the time it opened until 1984. Mr. Owens was owner and operator of High Tide Boats, Inc. He designed and built the boats. His favorite hobby was collecting antique bottles, which he enjoyed with his friends. He loved his church and the coastal waterways. His biggest joy was his family and his love for life.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Owens was predeceased by: three sisters, Marjorie Doran Beagle, Joyce Elliott and Blanche Carter; and a brother Durant Owens.
Surviving are: his wife of Georgetown; two daughters, Jennifer Owens Brown (David) of St. Louis, MO, Julie Owens Long, of Georgetown; one son, Michael Owens (Tara) of Maui, Hawaii; nine grandchildren; Skyla, Madison (Cody), Carley, Dulce, Quin, Jack, Luke, Jonesy and Gilia Marie; a great-granddaughter, Nova; a great-grandson, Atticus; a sister, Nell Rogers; a brother, Wesley Owens (Connie); and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be two o'clock Sunday afternoon, August 24, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday afternoon August 24, 2019, in the church parlor from one until two o'clock.
