Burdell C. Schwiebert, 96, of Hamler, Ohio passed on August 26, 2022 at Vancrest in Holgate. He was born April 16,1926 to Carl and Lydia (Drewes) Schwiebert. He went to Maassel grade school for 6 years and graduated from Hamler High School in 1944. During high school, Burdell was active in basketball, baseball and softball. He also loved to play dartball and golf.
Burdell proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the 3rd infantry during WWII in Germany. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 262. Burdell was a full-time farmer his entire life on the family farm near Hamler. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. During his Winters in Florida, he volunteered at the area hospitals visiting the sick.
Burdell married Helen Sager in 1950. In 1979, he was married to Betty Dehnbostel Wittenberg until her death in 1986. In 1990 he married Nancy Jo Buckham, who passed away in 2020.
He is survived by his children, Scott (Pam) Schwiebert and Pat Schwiebert; daughter-in-law, Peggy Schwiebert; grandchildren, Dirk (Deirdre) Schwiebert, Tyler (Andrea) Schwiebert, Geoffrey (Sheena) Schwiebert, Brendon (Jordan) Schwiebert, Blaine (Stephanie) Schwiebert, and Brett (Kerry) Schwiebert; great grandchildren, Brady, Zayne, Carter, Cohen, Daxton, Adi, Lawson, Witton, Kipton, and Finn. Also surviving to cherish his memory are Betty's children, Sandi Pokorski, Beverly (Mike) Adams, Pam (Scott) Schwiebert, Terry (Kent) Wittenberg, Robert (Kathy) Wittenberg; step grandchildren, Elisa (Billy) Harmon, Jake Adams, Audrey (Ryan) Crandall, Alex Wittenberg, Alli (Mathais) Roberts, and Claire Wittenberg; and Nancy Jo's children, Brian (Jodi) Buckham and Beth (Bill) Haver and families. In addition to his parents, Burdell was preceded in death by his son Rick Schwiebert; and sisters, Marcella Leck and Margaret Davis.
Friends and family will be received at the Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler, on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM with an hour of visitation prior to services. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
