The family of Bula McGowen will celebrate her life of 94 years at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Plainview, Texas. She passed on Friday, March 26, 2021, in Lubbock, Texas. Bula was born on March 1, 1927, to Benjamin F. and Lillie Belle Page in Clyde, Texas. At an early age, her family moved to Lubbock, Texas where she graduated from Lubbock High School in 1944. She attended Draughon's Business School while working at Reese Air Force Base. It was there that she met the love of her life and future husband, Sam McGowen. Sam and Bula moved to Plainview, Texas where they started their family. She worked many jobs in Plainview while raising 3 children. She had a servant's heart always sharing with others by contributing with church dinners, as well families needing meals. Bula was involved with United Methodist Women's, and served as President of Business and Professional Women's Club and Vice President of Toastmasters. Bula enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, playing the piano, square dancing and spending time with her family. After retirement, Bula remained active attending Wayland Baptist University and enjoyed working at the Wayland Art Gallery. Later in life, she lived at the Beehive Assisted Living in Floydada, Texas and eventually moved to South-Haven Assisted Living in Lubbock, Texas.
She is survived by her 3 children, David and wife Norma of Floydada, Texas, Gary of Red Feather Lakes, CO, and Sandra Holder of Lubbock, Texas. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Samuel R. McGowen, her parents, and two sisters, Vada Whiting and Mary Gae Hays.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church 1001 W. 7th St. Plainview, Texas 79072, in her memory.
