Mr. Buford Small, age 81, entered into rest on Friday, February 2, 2024 at his home in Millen, Georgia. Visitation will be Monday, February 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home in Millen, Georgia. Graveside services with full military honors will be 2:00pm Tuesday, February 6, at Millen Cemetery, Millen, Georgia. Buford was a retired Civil Engineer from the Department of Transportation in Tennille, Georgia. He also was a US Army Command Sergeant Major in the 319th Engineer Support Company as a Reserve member, but also served active duty in the Vietnam War in 1968 and also in the Desert Storm War in 1991. During his military service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle Bars, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and Army Commendation Medal. Buford (Jerry) was a very generous and caring man. He loved his family, his friends, and his country. He was proud of his service to the military and instilled a great respect and appreciation in the hearts of his children for the sacrifices that were made for our freedoms. He was a man of his word and strived to show others his love in many ways. He will be Greatly missed by his family. Buford is survived by his children, Dennis (Rose) Small of Millen, Ga. and Laurie (Jet) Wilson of Millen, Ga.; His step-children, Patti (Bruce) McGraw, Sandi (Rick) Childress, Debbie (Danny) Owen, Kenneth (Carrie) Humphrey; His brother, Rufus "Bubba" (Gloria) Small; His grandchildren, Ashton Sherrod, Bailee Small, Ellis Sherrod, Karlee Small, Dallas (Jenna) Wilson, and Megan (Heath) Simmons; Multiple great grandchildren; His nephews, Michael (Denise) Small and Scott Sheppard. Crowe-Fields Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
