Bruce A. Gibbs, 88, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2021.
Born Nov. 21, 1932, in Pittsfield, MA, he was the son of the late Howard Sr. and Florence (Collins) Gibbs. He was educated in the Pittsfield Public Schools. He entered into the Air Force in 1950 and proudly served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956.
Bruce met and married Margaret Damon of Ashfield, MA in 1955, and together they had 4 children. He briefly worked at Pratt + Whitney in Connecticut, before relocating to Northampton, MA. Bruce worked for Coca Cola Company for 25 years and retired in 1992. He also worked for many years, part-time, for Pizza Express in Northampton.
Bruce was a loyal communicant of the former St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, now St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, both in Northampton, where he proudly served as a lector.
His hobbies included watching the Red Sox and old Westerns on TV and playing cards. Bruce and Margaret also liked to go on long drives and out to eat.
Bruce is survived by his four children, Dennis Gibbs and his wife Treasa of Sacramento, CA, Dean Gibbs of Northampton, MA, Douglas Gibbs and his wife Helen of Easthampton, MA, and Diane Murphy and her husband David of Dummerston, VT; his three grandchildren Melanie Murphy, Amy Murphy (Scott Machado), and Connor Gibbs; his one great grandson, Joshua Machado; his feline companion, Gio; and his special friend, Robin, from Griswold Home Care.
Besides his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Margaret, in 2014. He was also predeceased by his granddaughter Rebecca Gibbs of CA in 2004.
Bruce's family would like to thank to the caring staff at Care One Nursing Home in Northampton.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 21, 2021, at 10:45 AM at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road in Northampton, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery on Bridge Road. A visiting time will precede the service from 100:00 - 10:45 AM at the funeral home.
