Brian W. Carey, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home on April 15, 2021. He was a proud father, loving grandfather, and good friend to many. A lifelong Midwesterner, he was born on July 18, 1946 to Robert and Lillian (Pederson) Carey in Fargo, ND. He lived his early years in Westhope, ND. His family later moved to Groton, SD where he graduated high school. Brian attended Macalester College in Saint Paul, MN and Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. He also served in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. After his service, he settled in Aberdeen, then the Minneapolis area, which he made his home for the last thirty years of his life.
Brian will be lovingly remembered for his kindness and the warmth with which he embraced eve-ryone he encountered. He loved being outdoors, whether camping or walking local trails, but they never measured up to his deep love for biking. When he wasn't on his bike, he was most often following his beloved Twins and Gophers.
He is survived by his daughter, Annie Delano of Westmont, IL, son-in-law Kevin, and grandchil-dren Caroline, Lauren, Rachel and Adam, as well as by his son Daniel Carey of Arvada, CO, daughter-in-law Karen, and grandchildren Madison and Owen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family memorial service was held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on April 19th, with a recording available. A burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will follow at a later date. Donations can be made in Brian's memory to a charity of your choice. Washburn-McReavy Hopkins Chapel 952-938-9020
