"He who believes, and is Baptized, will be saved."
Jesus, Mark 16:16
Brandi Lynn Guajardo was called through Baptism unto a faith in Jesus Christ on November 12, 2021. Brandi professed a faith in Jesus as her Lord and Savior as she bravely and courageously battled cancer for five and one half years. Brandi, in faith, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. surrounded by her loving family at Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio.
Brandi, a sweet baby girl, was born to parents, Antonio (TJ) and Erica Guajardo on September 9, 2006 in McAllen, Texas. Soon thereafter, the family moved to Fredericksburg, where Brandi attended Fredericksburg Schools, making many friends and excelling as a student. Brandi and her family moved to San Antonio in October of 2021 in order to be closer to medical facilities. Brandi attended school until her diagnosis and treatments began in January of 2019, and then became a Homebound and On-Line student thereafter. Brandi enjoyed learning and participated well in school as an inquisitive and bright student. Brandi was an accomplished Martial Arts Athlete as well, excelling in Karate achieving a "Red" Belt! Over the last five years, Brandi became something of a poet. She used poetry as a release for lamentations. Her poems are very rich and deep and strong - just like Brandi!
Brandi loved her family. She was a wonderful daughter and a great, big sister to brother Eric. Brandi also enjoyed spending time with her grandparents and friends from school. Many people observed that Brandi was mature beyond her years. Indeed, her maturity showed up in many ways. How she treated others, the types and depths of questions she asked as a student and especially how she handled her circumstances over the past five years. Brandi made, well thought out tough decisions as Mom and Dad gave her the ownership of her battle over cancer. Brandi chose well. She made the right call on chemotherapy treatments, surgeries and in the closing days, how to navigate her Comfort Care. Brandi was a brave, honest and determined young lady. She never gave up hope and attempted most often to maintain a positive sunny disposition. There are lessons that she taught us all. She is an inspiration.
These five-plus years, many positive blessings occurred through Brandi because of her cancer. We cannot always see in the present the purpose or plan of what happens in an individual's life, however, sometimes looking back we gain a better perspective. We can point to a wonderful occasion when, because of cancer, Brandi, her parents and her little brother were all Baptized into the Christian faith. Brandi got to experience a private tour of Sea World, a kind of "Make A Wish" event, and a Cheesecake Factory dinner because people were moved and touched by her story. Brandi made bracelets for sick children, even with one hand. Brandi's favorite animal is a Hammerhead Shark, so she experienced a complete make-over of her bedroom into an undersea world, and here is an example of her character and self-denial. She turned down the "Make A Wish" foundation all expenses paid trip for her and her family to go to Disney World, why? Because, she said she didn't need that and that the money should be spent on other children worse off than her! Because of cancer, Brandi's influence became an ever and ever expanding circle, beginning at home, touching teachers, friends, and various churches with their prayer chains, total strangers who learned of her plight and wanted to help bring a smile and hope to her days. Doctors and nurses and techs, all doing their collective jobs, but doing them with compassion and gentleness and love. Brandi's ever expanding circle may include you; the family says "Thank You and God Bless You". May Brandi's courage, bravery, toughness, and yes, her sweetness, inspire you to extend yourself and to give, just a little bit more.
Brandi professed her faith in Christ. Brandi is in heaven!
