Boyd Rulon Lusk passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, in the presence of his wife of 67 years, Beth.
Boyd was born on October 8, 1929, to John D. Lusk and Lucy (Pieper) Lusk, in the home of his maternal grandmother in Rexburg, Idaho. He passed 95 years later in nearly the same spot of his birth.
Boyd attended school in Sugar City, ID, sharing a grade with his older sister, Irene. He loved playing sports as a Sugar-Salem Beet Digger. Boyd and Irene graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in 1947.
After high school, Boyd served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States mission, spending 2 years working with the people of Colorado, New Mexico, and Nebraska.
Following his church mission, Boyd was drafted into the US Army in 1952 where he served his country for 17 months in Korea.
Upon returning from Korea, Boyd attended the Idaho State College in Pocatello, ID, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology. It was at this time he would meet his future bride, Elizabeth Pearl Clark, on a blind date. After a courtship, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 30th, 1957.
He began his lifelong career as an educator teaching at Pocatello High School. In 1964, Boyd and his young family moved to El Centro, California, where he worked at Wilson Jr. High and Central Union High School as a teacher, coach, school administrator, and guidance counselor. During several summers, he returned to school and received a Master of Science in Botany from the University of Idaho in Moscow.
After their retirements, Boyd and Beth found joy in splitting their time between family and friends in both El Centro and Sugar City, traveling between homes seasonally for nearly 30 years.
Boyd served in many capacities within his church, including bishoprics, as a bishop, a high counselor, and patriarch. His goal, in both his church and professional positions, was to help, coach, and mentor youth.
Boyd is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, their two children Michele Lusk Ochs (John) of Imperial, CA; John Boyd Lusk (Jennifer) of Sherwood, OR; four grandchildren Natalie, Ryan, Aidan, and John Brady Lusk; siblings Bernice Lusk of Olympia, WA, Shirlene Dayton (Everett) of Salem, ID, David Lusk (Verda) of Idaho Falls, ID, Farrell Lusk (Ann) of Idaho Falls, ID, Gerald Lusk (Susann) of Iona, ID, and Vonda Snow (Robert) of Troy, VA, and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, John D. Lusk and Lucy Pieper Lusk; siblings John Clyde Lusk and Irene Nielsen.
A viewing will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 6 North Teton Ave in Sugar City at 10am on Tuesday, November 26th, followed by a service at 11am, and interment in the Sugar City cemetery thereafter.
In his final weeks, Boyd wished to express... "To my family, neighbors, friends, and associates... thank you for helping me have a good, wonderful life. I love you all."
