Boisy Glover
Help us celebrate Boisy! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Boisy.
Boisy Glover was born on June 23, 1927, in Jeffersonville, GA, to the union of the late Lizzie and Emmitt Glover. He was one of twelve children, all of which preceded him in death. Boisy received his education in the Twiggs County School System.
In 1945, Boisy departed Georgia by train, to go up north to Detroit, MI, in search of a better opportunity. While in Detroit, he began his career working union jobs in the construction industry. He soon met Elizabeth Francis Martin whom he later married in October, 1945. To this union, five children were born. Three children, Boisy Glover Jr (Beanie), Derrick Glover (Daddy O), and Janice Madden preceded him in death. In July of 1957, Boisy moved his family to Cleveland, OH where he continued his career in construction. He was also an employee of the Cleveland Board of Education.
Boisy accepted Christ at an early age. He was an active member of the usher board at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined Open Door Missionary Baptist Church where he was also a faithful usher until he could no longer actively serve.
In 1985, Boisy married Velma Neely who preceded him in death. He was a doting father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family, traveling, and playing checkers. He enjoyed playing practical jokes on people and being a “lawyer” to those in need. He was often heard saying, “I know what I know” and “Can I hold something?”. Boisy was a quick-witted, no non-sense type of guy who gave straight forward advice. He never met a stranger because every person he came in contact with, was like a friend he had not met yet. As the patriarch of his family, Boisy was loved by all.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Linda Glover, Vazilyn Johnson; one step daughter, Alma Neely Woods; one son-in-law, Thomas Madden Sr; ten grandchildren, Strephon Glover, Vazilyn Farmer (Richard), Phillip Glover, Sharayia Trumbo, Quinton Glover, Tanesha Madden-Stewart (Ben), Thomas Madden Jr., Reuben Nicholson (Kiara), Marcus Johnson, Autumn Johnson; two step grandchildren, Terrence Ross (Belinda), Cassandra Woods; seventeen great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; one sister in law, Christine Glover; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Special thanks from the family to Joy Harman, his dedicated caregiver.
