Bobby Lamar Wood

Mr. Bobby Lamar Wood, age 91, of Rome, GA, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby was born in Cedartown, Georgia on May 6, 1933, son of the late James Luther Wood and the late Lucille Weaver Wood. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ollin Wood, Donnie Wood, and Rudy Wood and his sister Myra Rentz. Mr. Wood was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mrs. Dorris Ann Addison Wood; his children, Barry Wood (Judy), and Teresa West (Paul); his grandchildren, Ben Wood, Jessica Rivera, Lacey McClendon, and Lauren Rentz; 5 great grandchildren; his brother Benny Wood; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Other "family" members were next-door neighbors, the Charles and Sara Graves family who lived next to the Woods for many years. Their children grew up playing together and the two families often vacationed together. Bobby was a great gardener, carpenter, and all-around "Mr. Fixit." "Bobby could fix anything and if at first he had no idea, he stuck with it until the fix was completed." Graves said. "Many outstanding furniture pieces in our home today were made by Bobby in his backyard shop. I did not just lose a friend; I lost a brother".

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 3:00pm at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with Rev. Chuck Graves and his son-in-law Paul West officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rome American Legion Honor Guard presenting military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Saturday from 1:00pm until the hour of service.

Pallbearers are to assemble by 2:30pm on Saturday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, and include, active, Ben Wood, Nathan McClendon, Beau Rentz, Hector Rivera, Dale Farmer, and Jos Kramer; honorary, Charles Graves, Doug Ackerman, and Barry Burkhalter.
