Mr. Bobby Wade, 85, of Cartersville, Ga passed away peacefully Sunday, January 24, 2021.
When Bobby was growing up, he attended Cass High school where he was quite an athlete. He was
recognized as an exceptionally gifted baseball player. He graduated in 1955 from Cass High School. In
1959 he was drafted into major league baseball as a pitcher for the Milwaukee Braves. He spent 3 years
in the majors before having a career ending arm injury. While in the majors, Bobby played for three
different organizations, The Milwaukee Braves, The Kansas City Athletics and The Los Angeles Dodgers.
He played along other greats such as Phil Neikro, Ron Hunt and Elrod Hendricks. Bobby's statistics while
in the majors were quite impressive. His lifetime career batting average was .278 and as a pitcher Bobby
held opponents to an era of less than 1.0.
After playing professional baseball, Mr. Wade built his career as an insurance agent and in 1991, he
retired from Liberty National Insurance. He also enjoyed being an umpire with youth and adult sports.
During retirement, Mr. Wade was an avid outdoorsman and golfer. He was a lifetime member of the
Elks Club where he enjoyed playing poker weekly. Mr. Wade, also known as, Bobby D, Popa, or The
Mayor of Sugar Valley, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will truly be missed by all
who had the pleasure to know and love him.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and his daughter in law, Joy Wade.
He is survived by his son, Steve Wade and daughter, Lori (Patrick) Bell, grandchildren; Nicholas (Shea)
Wade, Natalie (Chris) Taylor, and Paige Bell, great-grandchildren; Jackson and Tatum Taylor, River,
Avery, and Willow Wade, and Reagan Bell; special friends, C.L. Tidwell and Ricky Chastain.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Sunday, January 31 st from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at The
Cartersville Elks Club 1715 West Avenue, Cartersville, Georgia. Please join the family on this special
afternoon as they celebrate the life of Mr. Bobby Wade as he requested.
