On June 14th, 2021, heaven welcomed a precious angel. Bobby Gene Smith of Gold Hill, NC, age 71, passed with both daughters by his side.
Bob, as many of you know, was a simple man, but this simple man loved so big. He loved his girls and grandkids more than anything in the world. To them he was daddy and Paw-Paw or as Kelsey started many years ago, Pa -Paw. When not traveling to see the girls soccer games, or playing ball or whatever JB wanted to do, Paw-paw/ Daddy could be found in a tree stand, many times, never even wanting to get a deer, but just enjoying God's creation, or riding on the 4 wheeler exploring, or cutting wood. He loved to piddle, doing anything and everything around his house. Among many things, he leaves a legacy of his love for gardening and flowers to his girls.
Bob retired from Celanese of Salisbury in 2017 after working 48 years as a production mechanic. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard, serving 6 years in the early 1970s.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Angela Bjorklund and Wes of Wake Forest , NC; and Heather Aram and Jim of Haymarket, VA; four beautiful grandchildren that were his pride and joy, Lydia, Kelsey and Ella Bjorklund of Wake Forest and James Banks (JB) Aram from Haymarket; step-granddaughters, Sadie and Sophie Aram; mother, Ruby Lambert of Richfield; brother, James Smith and wife Linda of Salisbury; sister, Jahala Dailey of Richfield; step-daughters, Lorraine Emory and Sharon Hinesley and husband Scott; 4 step-grandsons and 2 step-granddaughters. He also has countless friends and cousins that he loved dearly.
We know he is rejoicing in heaven with Jesus and the love of his life, Brenda, who preceded him in death.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Friday, June 17th from 6:00-7:30 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 18th at 2:00 pm at Highland Baptist Church with Pastor Dusty Laney, Dale King and Pastor Anthony Thomas officiating. Bobby will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.
