Mrs. Bobby Jane Bagwell Orr, 89, of Hampton, Georgia passed away peacefully in Columbus Georgia on January 13th, 2021. Mrs. Orr is survived by her two daughters, Jane (Ed) Erkes of Columbus, Georgia and Lisa Arnold of Locust Grove, Georgia; her three beloved grandchildren, Stuart Erkes of Smyrna, Georgia, Caroline Erkes of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Erin (Jonathan) Alley of Hampton, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Lora Lei Alley, Lila Alley, Laikyn Alley, and Jonathan Montgomery Alley, all of Hampton, Georgia; her sister Ann Bradshaw of Canton, Georgia, brother-in-law Charles (Donna) Orr of Canton, Georgia and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Mrs. Orr is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Milton Orr. They were married for 63 years, spending most of those years raising their family in Hampton. Bobby Jane was born on December 19th, 1931 in Canton, Georgia to Hassie Jane and Robert Glenn Bagwell. She graduated from Canton High School in 1948. Bobby Jane attended high school with her future husband but she was the more social of the two and he focused on his studies. She attended Reinhardt College where she was Miss Reinhardt and graduated from North Georgia College with a degree in Elementary Education. Bobby began her long teaching career in Woodstock, Georgia. She reconnected with her future husband, "Bill" Orr in the spring of 1954 when he completed his service in the Army. They were married on her birthday in December of that same year. Bobby and Bill then moved to Athens where they spent two years while Bill completed his education at the University of Georgia and Bobby taught school in Danielsville, Georgia. After moving to Hampton, Bobby started a family and worked at Hampton Elementary School for 23 years teaching 4th grade. Her entire teaching career spanned 34 years. Bobby was known as an excellent teacher who was very dedicated to her students. She had a fun-loving spirit, an out-spoken nature, and she felt that eating out and shopping could cure any ailment. Bobby was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her strength of character was amazing and she demonstrated her devotion to God and her church. She will be missed so much by all her family and friends. In the spring of 2018 Bobby and Bill moved to assisted living in Canton, Georgia. Bobby lived there after Bill's passing until March, 2020 when she moved to Columbus to be closer to her daughter. Bobby didn't enjoy the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic but made many friends at the facility and was very popular with the staff. A graveside service in Canton, Georgia will be held on Sunday, January 17th for family members only in light of our current health precautions. The family would like to thank hospital staff and care givers of Piedmont Hospital Midtown in Columbus, Georgia and Columbus Hospice for their efforts, care, and dedication.
