Mrs. Bobbie Jean Hitchcock, 94, of Rome, Ga, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Bobbie was born on May 1, 1930 in Columbia, SC, and she was married to the late James Israel Hitchcock for over 50 wonderful years. Together they raised three children, James "Jimmy" Israel Hitchcock (Joan), Randy Howell Hitchcock (Beth), and Penny Lynn Hitchcock Roberson (William). She was blessed with nine grandchildren, Jamie, Sherry, Robert, Ashley, Whitni, Ryan, Jarrod, Amanda, and Kayla, and an abundance of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents Mallie Howell Haithcock and Alva Lee Brown Haithcock, her siblings, Relma Junior Brown (Bessie), Sadie Myers (Bill), Betty Boswell (John), Hazel Shelley (Owen), and great grandson Charlie Thrasher.
Bobbie was a faithful member of Spring Creek Baptist Church where she served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ joyfully for over 70 years. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and loved her children and grandchildren. She and her husband farmed and raised cattle and she spent many happy days on her porch swing by his side. She was always up for a visit to the mountains or the beach with her family. In her younger years, Bobbie worked at Rome Glove Mill, and was a substitute teacher at Floyd County Schools during her children's school years.
There will be a graveside service at Floyd Memory Gardens on Tuesday, December 31st, at 11:00 am led by Rev. Billy Fricks.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the cemetery at 10:45am on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 and include: Ryan Hitchcock, Jarrod Hitchcock, Alex Hitchcock, Hunter Thrasher, Braxton Kirby, and Blaine Kirby.
Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Mrs. Bobbie's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children Hospital or your local church.
