Blanche Reid, 94, of Frederick Maryland passed away on January 31, 2024, after a brief illness. Born February 26, 1929, in Thomasville AL, she was the eldest daughter of the late Braxton and Bernice Sellers.
Blanche was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Robert Reid, sisters Laurine Morse of Bullhead City AZ, and Nell Cain of Enterprise AL.
She is survived by her only son Barry Reid, his wife Metra, and two grandchildren Mackenzie and Sawyer from Hagerstown, MD. Also surviving are sisters Sharon Sisk of McIntosh AL, Hilda Matheson (Kenny) of Conrad MT, and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.
She retired from the Communications Satellite Company (COMSAT) in Clarksburg, Maryland before the company merged with others and moved operations. She provided clerical support for a best-selling publication on satellite communications as a well-respected employee.
Blanche was also a member of the Calvert (AL) Methodist Church.
Blanche enjoyed being with family and spoiling her grandchildren, who were her world. Active and independent up to the time of her death, she also loved spending time with her friends from the Spring Ridge Condominiums and going on day trips with many other lifetime friends. One of her favorite activities was going to the Catoctin Orchard and dropping off peaches at the Spring Ridge firehouse where she was affectionately called the "peach lady."
The family will receive friends from 10-11AM on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Resthaven Funeral Home 9501B Catoctin Mountain Hwy (US 15) in Frederick, MD. The service will begin at 11AM followed by a lunch on site at Noon. Mrs. Reid will be entombed with her husband in the mausoleum, which will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Calvert Methodist Church, PO Box 29, Calvert AL 36513.
