Billy Ivan "Bill" Watkins passed away February 13, 2021 at Abilene, Texas. He was 92.
Services will be held Saturday, 2:00 pm Graveside February 20, at Aspermont Cemetery by GilesMcCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont with Dick Griffith officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 until 7
Bill was born March 22, 1928 to Thomas Osborne and Hattie Gilley Watkins. He attended schools at Swenson and Aspermont where he graduated from high school in 1947. He was raised by his mother and grandparents, Homer and Emma Gilley, who were early Stonewall County residents.
He married Vergie Lois Stovall November 16, 1950. They had three children. He worked until his retirement at Texas Highway Department in Aspermont and Anson.
On October 23, 1980 he married Wanda Clyburn, and they enjoyed travelling together to various locations, making many trips to Branson, Missouri. Wanda and Bill attended the First Baptist Church of Abilene. They lived in Abilene until his death.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. For many years he hosted "Bill's Fish Fry". He always caught all the fish and enjoyed inviting his family and friends for a good lunch and wonderful fellowship.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, W.D. Ellison, and two granddaughters, Sarah Griffith and Laura Griffith.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Abilene, his sister, Lois Ellison of Aspermont; his son, Bill Curtis Watkins and wife Dorothy Ellen of Anson; his daughter, Lou Ann Griffith and husband Dick of Merkel; his son, Jerry Don Watkins and wife Sheila of Stephenville; Don Clyburn of Abilene, David Clyburn of Merkel, and Marsha Crane and husband Dennis of Clyde.
Grandchildren are David Watkins and wife Julia of Anson; Jake Watkins of Stephenville, Jaret Watkins and wife Jenny of Roanoke, Stephanie Schrimsher and husband Billy of Stephenville; Travis Griffith and wife Vanessa of San Angelo, Jesse Griffith of Austin, and Kayla Griffith of Dallas.
Great-grandchildren include: Tyler Watkins, Marissa Griffith, Will Schrimsher, Cole Schrimsher, Katie Schrimsher, Corbyn Mills, Alora Mills, Will Watkins, Shane Vernon, April Ivey, Curtis Clyburn, Tim Clyburn, and Jason Clyburn.
