Mr. Billy Edward Thompson, age 90, formerly of Aiken, South Carolina passed away on Tuesday morning, September 7, 2021 at the Serenity Place in Dublin, Georgia.
Born in Pelzer, South Carolina, he was the eldest of three children born to the late William Terry Thompson and Ruby Ida Knight Thompson. He grew up in Pelzer and was a graduate of Pelzer High School. After high school, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon being honorably discharged in 9152 he settled in Aiken and accepted employment at the Savannah River Site as a Power House Operator. After over 20 years working in power generation, he transitioned into Electrical an Instrumentation Maintenance. He retired with over forty-two years of service. In 2016 he moved to Soperton, to be near family.
He was married to Louise Johnson Thompson for fifty eight years and for over twenty five years they enjoyed square dancing and attending conventions in Myrtle Beach, SC, Gatlinburg, TN, California, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Florida.
During his many years as a resident of Aiken, he was a longtime member and Treasurer of the Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Thompson and a sister, JoAnn Stone.
Mr. Thompson leaves behind, his daughter, Debra Bunton (Fred), Soperton, GA, his son, Stephen Thompson (Glenis), Aiken, SC, his last living sibling, Shirley Tammen, Williamson, SC, grandchildren, Lauren Padgett (Sean), Daniel Thompson, Nicole Thompson, great grandchildren, Hope and Beau Padgett and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from the graveside in Sunset Memory Gardens, Aiken, SC.
