Billy Edward Starkey was born in Rising Star, Texas June 3, 1926 to Willie & Oscar E. Starkey. Bill passed away January 27, 2022 at the Masonic Retirement Community in Arlington, TX at the age of 95. Bill was a "Master Mason" with the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas for more than 70 years.
Bill grew up in west Texas, attended Tivy High School in Kerrville, and subsequently graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas. He joined the Marines in 1944, served in the Pacific during WWII, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Upon returning from military service, Bill married his sweetheart, Ouida Kathleen Young, on June 30, 1946. They had three daughters, Bonnie, Judy, and Donna.
Bill's career began as an electrician for the Magnolia Pipe Line Company in West Texas, promoted through supervisory positions with the parent company Mobil Oil, and relocated to the Dallas offices. Throughout his career, Bill's responsibilities provided him the opportunity to travel to Libya, Saudi Arabia, Alaska, and Japan in conjunction with company pipeline construction and maintenance projects. Bill retired from Mobil Oil in 1985 after 35 years of service.
Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed working outside on many projects, including refurbishing a boat for family outings and the total restoration of both a classic Ford Mustang and a Volkswagen Beetle. In addition to being an accomplished handyman, Bill enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and telling endless stories.
Bill is survived by his three grandsons, Brock Allen and Austin Allen of Houston, and John Seth Romberger of Plano.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Willie & Oscar Starkey, brother & sister-in-law Jackie & June Starkey, his loving wife Ouida, and all three of their daughters, Bonnie, Judy, and Donna.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday, February 14 at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. A pre-burial visitation will be held Tuesday, February 15 between 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM in the Chapel at Moore. Interment will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 15 at the DFW National Cemetery.
