Billy undefinedBillundefined Joe Cookston, 89, of Plainview went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 21, 2024 in the Kornerstone Chapel with Pastor Matt Perkins of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 P.M. in the Kornerstone Chapel.
Bill was born on April 28, 1935 to Fred and Slyvia Cookston in Gainesville, Texas. At age 19, Bill hitch hiked to Plainview with 10 cents in his pocket. He got a job at OK Rubber Tires and worked for them for 11 years and 4 months. He then purchased Date Street Salvage and as they say, the rest is history. He also owned and operated Cookston Auto Sales and Upholstery Shop for many years before retiring in 2017 & 2018. Bill was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Bill married Rosalind Smith on March 25, 1966.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son Mike Scroggins; and a daughter, Linda Long; grandson, Stephen Scroggins; great grandson, David K. Ward.
Bill is survived by his wife Rosalind Cookston of 58 years; daughter, Sue Stoker; son, Joe Cookston; granddaughters, Nicklyn Bray, Deidra Newberry and husband Adam, DeAndra Long, Dondi Long; grandson, Eric Ward; great grandson, Joshua Long; great granddaughter, Madison Newberry; great great grandson Banks Bain.
The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to the Calvary Baptist Church, 1613 W. 24th St., Plainview, Texas 79072.
