Betty Kay W. Coleman, of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Chestertown, MD and Wilmington, Del., died May 11, 2022 at the Suncoast Hospice Care Center in Palm Harbor, Florida. She was 87.
Mrs. Coleman, the daughter of the late William Robert White, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Elliott White, was born in Chestertown, MD. After graduating high school, she briefly worked as a telephone operator before marrying her husband of 59 years, Ronald (Ronnie) E. Coleman. They raised their two children, Mark and Beth, in Wilmington, Delaware before spending several years in Chestertown, Maryland and then finally retiring to Florida.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in New Port Richey. Mrs. Coleman loved old movies, followed current events voraciously, had an infectious laugh; and made others always feel welcome and included. She was not a fan of cooking but always said she and Ronnie were a good match since he loved to cook and she was happy to be on clean-up. Her kids will attest she made the world's best coleslaw and deviled eggs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie, her daughter, Karen Beth Coleman; and five brothers, Lusby Elliott, Ronald White, Ralph White, Charles "Trixie" White and William R. White, Jr.
She is survived by her son, R. Mark Coleman and his wife, Janet, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., many nieces and nephews, her dear friends Carol Beckett and Jean Dwyer, her family of the heart, the Becketts and the Harvaneks; and her beloved dog, Rusty.
A public Celebration of Life will be held this summer with Interment at Grace Episcopal Cemetery, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
