Betty Whittinghill, 94, of Sarasota, Florida was called from this life on January 16, 2022.
She was born in Louisville, KY but, lived in her hometown of New Albany, Indiana until moving to Sarasota to be near her son and his family in 1998.
Betty was sharp with numbers and used these skills working as a bank teller for Floyd County Bank and as a bookkeeper for Paramount Plywood in New Albany for many years. Betty had enough energy for five people and was involved in many community activities. She was a life-long member of St. Marks United Church of Christ in New Albany and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She continued to support St. Marks from Sarasota and joined a local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi as soon as she arrived in Sarasota. She and her husband, Dick, loved to entertain and were wonderful hosts. Some would argue her table settings would rival Martha Stewart's. Betty loved entertaining her grandchildren and in her retirement, she and Dick became volunteers at Mote Marine Aquarium. Anyone who knew her would agree that she was upbeat and had a positive outlook. One of her favorite mottos was, "this too shall pass" reminding everyone that hard times do not last. She was loved by many and will be missed.
She is survived by her son, Bruce (Beth) Whittinghill; granddaughter, Betsy (Coleman) Brice; great grandsons, Thomas Whittinghill and Wilson and Oliver Brice; siblings John Spencer and Anna Breeden; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Richard "Dick" Whittinghill, her husband of 58 years; her grandson Spencer Whittinghill; and three siblings Alden Spencer, Margie Beeler and Alice Krosky.
Services will be held February 25, 2022 from 1:00 - 4:00 at the National Cremation & Burial Society, 2990 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota.
