Betty Lou Weatherford, age 93, of Brown County, passed away Monday morning, March 14, 2022 at her residence. Born January 26, 1929 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Charles and Grace (Roberts) Clark. Betty graduated from Manual High School in Indianapolis and married her husband, Louis Weatherford on September 17, 1948.
They raised their family in Speedway, Indiana where Betty was the quintessential homemaker, wife and mom. She took pride in her house, made sure her family ate well (although admittedly sleepily at breakfast), was her daughters' Girl Scout leader, a cheerleader at school events and a fun-loving part of a close knit neighborhood. She spent many summer afternoons at Westwood Country Club while the kids swam and she visited with other moms.
After her husband's retirement, they moved to their lake house in Brown County, a home they built on family property near where she visited her grandfather as a young girl. They embraced country living, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and joining in community activities, especially the Brown County Humane Society.
Wherever she lived, Betty loved to bowl and play cards. She also loved dogs, taking walks in the woods around their property, taking trips with her children and grandchildren or her friends or cousins and visiting with friends and family. She was a quiet, gentle soul and a role model of an independent woman. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Morgantown and the Brown County Humane Society.
Betty is survived by her loving daughters, Jane Weatherford (Scott Nelson) , of Morgantown (Brown County) and Kathy Sharp of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Richard) Bennett, of Speedway, Indiana and Tim (Chelsie) Sharp, of Lebanon, Indiana and two great-grandchildren, Lauren Sharp and Andrew Sharp.
Betty was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Louis; sister, Maxine (Clark) Paton; and her son-in-law, Steven Sharp.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home; 1682 St. Rd. 135 North; Nashville, Indiana. Burial will follow in the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Brown County following the service. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
