Mrs. Betty Jo Carver Thacker, age 84, of Rome, GA, passed away February 15, 2021.
She was born April 29, 1936, the second child of the late Clarence Tumlin Carver and Vivian Emma Patrick Carver. She had resided in the Dykes Creek Community her entire life and was a member of the Dykes Creek Baptist Church (DCBC) where she had worshipped for the past 70 years.
Mrs. Thacker was a graduate of Johnson High School, Carroll Lynn Business School and attended Coosa Valley Tech. She was employed by The Rome Housing Authority (NWGRA) in the Finance Department for 31 years. In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling through the USA and Canada with her favorite travel agencies, spending time at Curley's Cove RV Park on Weiss Lake and participating with the Senior members of the DCBC until health prevented her attendance.
To honor the heritage of her grandfather, the late Judge John Henry Carver, she attended the annual camp meetings of Morrison's Campground. This event was attended each year by the entire Carver family. She was attending the meeting in August 1952, where she met the love of her life, John Lidell Thacker. After three years of courtship, they were married August 1955. They spent 60 years of happiness together until his death, September 24, 2014.
Mrs. Thacker was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Michael (Micky) Carver. She is survived by 3 daughters, Melanie Sayer (Barry), Ann Baird (James) and Lori Jackson (Jim), by two grandchildren, Meredith Rosson (Kevin) and Jordan Baird (Charis), and by her great-grandchildren, Rett, John Luke, Lane, Kaitlin, Jaxon, Anslie, Kayleigh, Skylar and Virgil. Also surviving is a sister, Patricia Anderson (Phil) and a brother, Steve Carver (Becky). Nieces, Nephews, and extended family also survive.
A memorial service for the family and friends will be held at Dykes Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 2 PM with visitation from 1:00 - 1:45. Her pastor, Mikel Garrett will officiate. Burial will follow at East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Jordan Baird, Rett Rosson, Kevin Rosson, James Baird, Jim Jackson, Barry Sayer, Skylar McCoy, John Luke Baird, Jaxon and Lane Rosson. Honorary pallbearers are Dallas Kerce, Chaitram Singh, Larry Fincher, Jerry Emerson and Anthony Spears.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Georgia Baptist Children's Home, PO Box 329, Palmetto GA 30268, to honor the adoption of her great-grandchildren.
