Betty Ann Padgett (Tayman), 83, of Farnham, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, following a five-year struggle with dementia. After a brief battle with pneumonia, Betty passed away peacefully with her beloved daughter by her side. Betty was a kind-hearted, generous, and determined woman. Her life centered around family, friends, and her Church. Those she left behind realize that even time cannot erase the loving imprint she left on our hearts. She was a founding member of New Life Church in LaPlata, Maryland, where she served her higher power, formed countless friendships, and found a peaceful heart and a joyful soul. She loved to laugh, listen to country music, and often recounted stories of happy times spent dancing in years gone by. Road trips to Amish Country delighted her, even if it was just to drive around country roads. She enjoyed playing slot machines at Dover Downs and dining at the various buffets, her favorite option. Whether routine meals with family, dining out, or celebrating a special event, "Miss Betty" was always the one cutting, serving, or eating the cake - her love of sweets was legendary! Even in her last days, memory care workers recalled how "Miss Betty" never forgot to eat her dessert - her favorite part of the meal! Born on November 8, 1937, in Brandywine, Maryland, she was one of five children born to the late Maude Virginia and John B. Tayman, Sr. She graduated from Gwynn Park High School and worked as a waitress at the Brandywine Motel & Restaurant. There Betty discovered her passion for serving, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of people from all walks of life. She never stopped caring for others. At 25, she married the man of her dreams, William E. (Gene) Padgett, in 1964 and dedicated the rest of her life to her family. Like so many women of her era she proudly defined herself as a dedicated mother and wife. Betty is survived by her husband, daughter, Gayle L. Jefferson (Douglas), and sister, Mary (Tootsie) Goldsmith. She leaves behind doting nieces and nephews who touched her life tremendously, as well as cousins and cherished friends. In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by her siblings Linda Bond, Dorothy Cooksey, and John B. Tayman, Jr. The family invite friends for a visitation for Betty that will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Huntt Funeral Home, where service will follow at 12:30PM, 3035 Old Washington Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601. The graveside service will occur Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601.
