Betty (Henry) Stephens left this world praising and worshiping her Lord and Savior. As she made her transition, she spoke the final words expressing her deepest thoughts and feelings
"I LOVE YOU ALL"
Betty came into the world with such a great committed LOVE for her parents and siblings being raised with many experiences in a spirit filled family of Pentecostal Church of God community. This up bringing touched every part of her life-she made decisions based on the walk Jesus spoke of during his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5 3-12)
Betty had an attitude of being called to serve and try to help people understand THEY too could have true happiness and joy in this crazy world and through any challenging time by just putting their eyes on JESUS-sit, get a great cup of black coffee a good smoke and just talk to the Lord. She never veered away from talking to someone about the Lord-offering her time to pray for someone's needs-when she made a commitment of prayer you can be assured, she was praying for you. Betty was given a gift of insight into how to pray, how to listen and interact with the Holy Spirit never shying from her relationship with the Lord in her daily talks and walk with her Savior. You knew Mom was in prayer as she walked through the house doing chores making cakes, casseroles whatever was the favorite food SHE prayed, SHE whistled, and SHE cooked.
Feed the hungry-making enough food to feed an army, neighborhood, large traveling young gospel group in their home that became stranded when having a concert at Trinity church. So many selfless examples of Mom's loving care through food.
Bettys love of family was never ceasing whether it was for her parents-Oleta & Walter Henry, siblings-Elizabeth Teague (sister) Nina Tramel (sister), best friend and side kick in all life's journey and of course their baby brother James Britt Henry. When it came to her parents & siblings, she would drop it all to be available. If there was a celebration-mom was the first to raise a toast-first to get on the dance floor-first to hug you-first to pray with you and for you-AND THEN the first to say GOOD NIGHT and head off to bed even if the party was in full swing she called a GOOD NIGHT & I LOVE YOU laying her head on her pillow with joy in her heart listening to the laughter and fun.
Betty's next greatest love was of course her husband of "64" years-there was never a greater adventure to be a part of than the DUB & BETTY show-everyone in the family knew their part. DUB knew the guitar must be set up speakers working and enough seats for all. Stories were made, teasing was never ending, and Dad was the entertainment with Betty jumping in there to dance a jig while Dub would finally play her favorite song. Poker games were a ritual around the house, singing was always present, and Mom's great cooking filled the air.
Bettys greatest love was closest to her heart, the commitment she made each and every day of her life (even though they were mature adults) HER 3 Kiddos- her Valentine baby-Davonna (Ric, Sarah, Stephen, Ricky & Terry) her Christmas blessing Walt (Amy, Trevor & Derek) and her ray of sunshine Tonya (Tracy, Jeremy, Courtney-Jacob, Angela) and MiMi's sweet loves-her 10 GREAT grandchildren. If you were blessed to have a membership you knew you were loved! You were the apple of her eye!! Her famous saying: "I love you "A BUSHEL AND A PECK AND A HUG AROUND YOUR NECK-YOU ARE LOVED! As the family tree grew many came into the fold of that love and with Mom you were family-Lorraine Serrano, Sharon & Mac Frye, Wanda Lampp (sister in love) Francis Stephens (sister in love) JoAnna, Dale & Bobbye Young, Ben & Saroj Misra. Mom's love for family did not stop here it extended to so many nieces, nephews and others. Too many to list so we will assure you AUNT BETTY loved you. There will be acknowledgement of two that were closest to her heart: Penne Rena Tramel- Aunt Betty loved you and greatly appreciated all the warm hugs and sweet attitude you always expressed to her-if Aunt Betty said it or requested it you made sure those needs and desires were met, and she forever will pray for and love you. Nina Biava- you were more like a daughter to Mom, her partner in being a prayer warrior and always willing to talk and praise the LORD with her.
Nina Tramel- what can be said what words can describe Mom's love for you, you were her confidant, her partner in crime, her sounding board, her closest friend YOU ARE HER SISTER and Betty knew she was blessed.
Betty's journey included so many adventures and accomplishments: making front page news for her patriotism having a yard lined with the American Flag representing each year and celebration for the 4th of July. Attending college while raising 3 young children. Being the first International Realtor in Lubbock, TX. Being on the ground floor as coordinator Lubbock and surrounding area for "Youth for Understanding (exchange student program)". Teaching to all about Jesus and that you can follow him with joy in your heart.
As in all things we cannot remind, describe or say enough about Betty Stephens to share her heart but we will share the one thing we all will be assured of. She will be your prayer warrior and
SHE LOVED US ALL!!
Special thanks to hospice for your love and gentle care especially: Taylor, Amy & Maria
