Betty Lee Sheets, of Great Falls, VA, passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2023 at the age of 90.
Betty was born on January 1, 1933, in Lovettsville, VA, to the late Louis and Mabel Croson. In her early 20's, she moved to Arlington, VA to work for C&P Telephone. Walking home from work one day, she met a young man, which lead to a lifelong romance. She soon after married Russell Sheets, her husband of 68 years.
Russell and Betty moved to Great Falls, VA in the 1960's to begin their family of 4 children. Betty was the ultimate homemaker. She was an avid gardener, maintaining beautiful flower gardens and growing and canning vegetables. She was an incredible cook and loved to host large family gatherings. Betty was active in her church, playing organ for over 30 years. In her downtime, Betty loved listening to classic country music and Elvis, dancing around the kitchen to her favorite tunes.
Betty is predeceased by her siblings, Jimmy Croson (wife Cathy) and sister Bernice Stahlings (husband Charlie). Along with her husband, Russell, Betty is survived by her four children: Sharon Hildebrand, David Sheets and wife Linda, Beverly Moxley and husband Steve, Steve Sheets
and wife Krissy. Betty loved babies and was blessed with nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Cheryl Bartley (great-granddaughter, Natalie), David Sheets, (wife Jennifer and great-grandson, Maddux), Brian Bartley, Jeremy Sheets (partner Jessica), Wesley Moxley, Shannon Moxley, Laura Hildebrand (great-granddaughter, Mikaela), Grant Sheets and Dylan Sheets. Betty leaves behind her brother-in law, Don Sheets, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will be honoring Betty's life with a private ceremony.
