Betty Ruth Wysor Pearman, passed away on February 26, 2021 after suffering a heart attack. She was 92.
Betty was known for her love of her friends, her gracious and welcoming hospitality, her nurturing care of her extended family of cousins and friends' children, and her elegance and sense of style.
She was born in Richmond, VA and attended St. Catherine's School for Girls. There she was a Gold, wrote the cheer song for the Gold team (and as everyone knows, the Golds are far superior to the Whites), and received demerits for swinging her foot in class. Along with her friend Jean Matthews, she was a founding member of Eta Beta Mu, which it can now be revealed stood for "Hell's Belle's Meeting."
At a young age she met the love her life, Stuart Pearman, at Virginia Beach. Her father, W.G. "Bud" Wysor, the founder of Southern States Cooperative, and her sweet mother, Ruth Puckett Wysor, would not let her marry Stuart (whose prospects at the time did not look all that promising to anyone, save Betty) unless she was able to support herself independently. So, off she went to Bradford Junior College in Haverhill, MA where she learned secretarial skills and missed Stuart. Not necessarily in that order.
Upon her return she married Stuart; their wedding was January 7, 1950. She followed him, making a home for their family through over a dozen household moves as he rose in the ranks at Esso, later to become Exxon. (In the end, Stuart's prospects turned out to be quite strong as he led a distinguished career.) But this ascent required many moves. As difficult as they were, she organized and made them all for him, making a warm and special home for him and their children in each city. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in January 2021.
Betty was a loving mother, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a frequent volunteer for many organizations, and was devoted to her husband and her family. She brought out the best in the people around her. She loved to play bridge, decorate her home, and travel with her husband. Their travels were extensive and included trips to England, Europe, Africa, China, India and Asia. She had a special fondness for Gravetye Manor and Clivedon, both in England.
At their wedding, her friend Jean (from Eta Beta Mu) met his friend, Ben Matthews. Ben and Jean were married and have been their lifelong friends.
After the wedding, Ben drove Betty and Stuart to The Cloisters in Georgia for their honeymoon, as Stuart did not have a car. Ben sang "Tweedle O' Twill" to them, all the way.
Betty is survived by her husband, Stuart; her children, Stuart Jr. (and his wife Liz) and Bill; and her grandchildren, Christopher and Ryan Pearman. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Bud, of whom she was very fond - although he pulled her hair and picked on her when she was young - and his wife, Lee, also their lifelong friends.
Graveside Service will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021 11:00am at Hillcrest Memorial Park 7405 W. Northwest Hwy Dallas, TX 75225.
