Betty graduated from Webster Springs High School in 1946 and Marshall University in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Physical Education and a minor in Biological Science. After Joe completed his U.S. Military Service, they moved to Washington, D.C. where Betty was employed with the U.S. Army Map Service. Betty later accompanied Joe to his overseas assignments with the State Department in Bonn, Germany and Vienna, Austria. Upon returning from overseas, she worked with the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service.
Betty never forgot her roots and whenever she could, along with Joe and the family escaped to their Mountain Cabin in West Virginia. She loved West Virginia and found great enjoyment no matter wherever she was in meeting and talking to people from her home state.
Betty will be remembered for her dedication to her family and her indomitable spirit. She will be forever and ever missed by family, friends and acquaintances.
