On July 14, 2022, Betty Fage Manley, of Lindon, Utah, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 93 in her home while surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 23, 1929, to George Frederick Fage and Olive Bird Fage in the family home in Lindon, Utah. She was the second of three children. Growing up, her greatest love was to work on the farm by her father’s side. She loved milking cows and was particularly proud of the foam she could put on the top of the milk. She took pride that she could milk a cow better than anyone around except for her dad, and was pleased to be able to outwork any of the boys. Towards the end of her high school career, a young man who had just returned from a tour of duty with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, caught her eye. He had moved to Lindon to help a friend on his farm up the street. That young man was Ken Manley, who became Betty’s sweetheart and eternal companion. They were married on March 29, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple after Ken joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Betty enjoyed a variety of jobs throughout her life, from working in the Lindon cannery and preparing meals for the patients at American Fork Hospital, to dental assisting, working in the apples, and helping customers at Olsen’s Garden Shop. She was even a lunch worker at Lindon Elementary where her goal was to brighten students’ days as they came in for lunch. Out of all of her many jobs, her favorite was as a mother and grandmother. Betty enjoyed embroidery, bowling, dressing up for Halloween with Jewel Hutchinson, cooking, making strawberry jam and rolls, scrapbooking, gardening, and anything else that involved loving her family, friends and neighbors. She loved everyone unconditionally and she was loved in return.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served many church callings. She served in the primary, young women, Sunday school, and scouting programs. One of the callings she loved the most was to write letters to ward missionaries and get their plaques made for the ward showcase, which she did faithfully for 25 years. Ken and Betty spent their entire married life in Lindon, Utah. In their golden years they enjoyed snowbirding in Quartzsite, Arizona. They were able to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary before Ken passed away on May 15, 2017. They had five children Barbara Pulley (Lynn), Robert Manley (Donna), Cathy Ash (Kaylen), Alan Manley (Judy), and Alisa Morgan (Charles). Betty was very proud of all her children, 25 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way. She loved her family “with all her heart.”
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her daughter-in-law, Judy Manley, her two siblings, Joye Gray and Paul Fage, her great-granddaughter, Aspen Ogden, her great-grandson, Dallin Mishler, and her great-great-grandson Levi Humphries. She is survived by her children, her grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
