Betty Louise Gunter Bourne, 91, widow of Carlton Russell Bourne, passed away Thursday morning April 28, 2022, at Mt. Pleasant Gardens.
Mrs. Bourne was born in Georgetown on January 9, 1931, a daughter of the late William Jesse Gunter and Pearl McKenzie Gunter. She was a step-daughter of the late Troy Poston.
Betty graduated from Winyah High School in 1949, and the Medical College of South Carolina School of Nursing in 1953. After graduating, she briefly worked for International Paper Co. Betty then went on to work at Georgetown Memorial Hospital for thirty-eight years. She retired in 1992 as Operating Room Supervisor and Director of Surgical Services.
Mrs. Bourne was member a Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in the Susanna Wesley Church School Class. She was married for fifty-eight years to the love of her life, Carlton Bourne, who predeceased her in 2015. Betty loved her family and took great pride in her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time at Pawleys Island.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bourne is predeceased by: a daughter, Sarah Ellen Bourne and a grandson, Dawson Bourne.
Surviving are: a son, Charlie Bourne (Sheryl) of Mt. Pleasant, grandchildren, Grayson Bourne (Nikki), Parker Bourne (Brooke) and Bethany Bourne; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Kate Bourne; a brother, Donald Gunter (Joyce) of Georgetown; and a sister, Carol Jean Frye (Jim) of Indio, CA.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care that she received from Mt. Pleasant Gardens, the Alzheimer Care Center and Lutheran Hospice.
Funeral Services will be one o'clock Tuesday, May 3, 2022, in Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. E. Ross Chellis. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, May 2, 2022, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home from four until six o'clock.
