Betty Lou (Jackman) DeTurck, 92, of Hickory Drive in Northampton, MA died Saturday April 17th 2021 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
Born in Greenfield, MA on January 16, 1929, Betty Lou was the daughter of the late Arthur and Emma (Schechterle) Jackman. She graduated from Greenfield High School and Nursing School. Betty Lou retired from Cooley Dickinson Hospital as an LPN after 40 years as a nurse. She married Henry DeTurck on February 3rd 1978, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Northampton. She loved traveling with her husband and going to their condo in Maine during the summer. In the winters she enjoyed visiting her sister and her husband in Florida. Betty Lou was a longtime member of the St John's Episcopal Church's Guild. She worked as a hostess at Wiggins Tavern received the Good Citizen's Award of the USA, and was an accredited orthopic appliance fitter at Bran Winn Pharmacy and many local physicians.
Betty Lou was predeceased by her parents, her 2 sisters Lucille Dion and Marjorie Haskins. Betty Lou leaves her husband of 43 years Henry DeTurck; sons Harry Spencer and his life partner Edna, Arthur Spencer and his wife Patricia; her daughter Linda Dupont and her husband Paul; grandson Zach Dupont; 4 step-grandchildren Billy Pichette, Michelle (Pichette) Bouley, Nicole Clad and Anne Dupont; 4 step-great grandchildren and 1 step-great-great granddaughter.
A calling hour will be held Thursday April 22, 2021 at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton from 10 to 11 am. Burial at St Mary's Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the St John's Episcopal Church, 48 Elm St, Northampton, MA 01060 or to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.
