Betty Lou Bryant
A long life of service to all.
My mother, Betty L Bryant passed early in the morning 25 Oct 2018. I humbly pray for her soul and ask our Lord to welcome her into Heaven and forgive her of her sins. I pray for her to be joined with her family and find peace for all of eternity at the foot of God.
Betty was born on 13 Oct 1932 in Stearns, Pulaski County, Kentucky. She attended Somerset High School in Pulaski County until her senior year when she transferred to Colerain High School in Cincinnati, Ohio (Hamilton County) where she earned her High School Diploma on 30 May 1951.
She married Melvin Glen Moore and lived in Cincinnati where she gave birth to two children: Lois Katherine Moore in 1952 and Michael Glen Moore in 1956. In 1967, Melvin (who worked at the US Post Office) experienced a massive heart attack and tragically died. She went back to school and earned her Nursing Degree and raised and provided for her two children and herself.
Betty was a resilient lady. She was the only child of her parents who quickly divorced when she was very young...maybe 1-2 years old. She was raised mainly by her maternal grandparents Perry William Godsey and Abigail Elizabeth Neely when she was a young girl.
She had two half-siblings from her father's first marriage: Valda Jo Bryant (1928) and Conley Edward Bryant (1930-2002).
During her early teens, she moved in with her mother Myrtle Katherine Godsey and her second husband Reverend Phillip Hobson Ball. Her mother had eight more children with Rev. Ball. They were: Phillip Roger Ball (1939), Dorris Woodward nee Ball (1941), Ruth Ball (1944), Ray M Ball (1946), Lindell R Ball (1949), Patricia Kidd nee Ball (1951), Jerry Wayne Ball (1953), Marisue Cartwright nee Ball (1956). They primarily live in Pine Knot, McCreary County, Kentucky.
Mom married Welby Americus McBeath II (1939-2013) aka Mac on 29 Feb 1972 in Cincinnati. They relocated to Miami, Florida almost immediately. In January 1973 she had a son, Gregory Sean McBeath in Miami. In 1980, she was forced to have a hysterectomy and have her thyroid removed. She divorced Welby on 20 Feb 1982 and relocated back to Cincinnati.
On 4 Aug 1983, she married Arthur William Boese in Cincinnati and lived there until 1985. She and her husband, Art moved to Fort Lauderdale where they lived for 3 years until they purchased a new home in 1990 in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. In Sep 1992, her husband Art passed away from brain cancer.
Mom sold her home and moved in with her oldest son, Michael Glen Moore and his wife Cynthia Lou Moore (nee Stanley) in Casselberry, Florida. During this time she lived in their mother-in-law suite. She was able to be a close grandmother to her only granddaughter Toni Renee Moore (1986) and her step-grandchildren Amber, and Ashley.
When her son Mike retired from AT&T, she followed him out to Evergreen Colorado. In 2000, she fought and beat breast cancer.
In 2002, she moved to Fort Mill, S.C. to be closer to her youngest son, Gregory and be able to spend time with her two grandsons: Welby Americus MacBeth III (1997) and Sumner Collins MacBeth (1998).
She loved Florida and always wanted to return, so in 2003, she moved back to Port Saint Lucie, FL. From 2005 through 2012, she lived Jacksonville, FL. Having had several mini-strokes, she moved into the assisted living facility Brookdale (formerly Emeritus) in Melbourne, FL.
In Oct 2017, she began to worsen experiencing greater dementia and after a couple of weeks of hospitalization, she was placed under the care of Hospice of Saint Francis. Two weeks ago she experienced even more mini-strokes but recovered enough to return back to Hospice last Friday. On 24 Oct, I was notified of the situation worsening further and she was placed on critical care. Early this morning at 2:40 she passed peacefully and quietly in her sleep at Brookdale Assisted Living facility.
Betty lived for 86 years and 16 days. She will be buried at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. We ask in lieu of flowers that donations be made to:
