Betty Jean Clarkson, age 85, went home to be with her Savior on Thursday, October 7th.
Betty, the daughter of Alton and Eunice Tabor, was born on October 15th, 1935, in Washington, D.C. She and her brother, Ronald, spent their early years growing up in Suitland, Maryland. Betty overcame a birth defect that caused her to eventually have more than twenty surgeries on her leg. In 1963 she met and married the love of her life, William Joseph (Bill) Clarkson. Their married life took them to Dover, Delaware, back to Maryland, and finally to Manassas, Virginia where they enjoyed a beautiful life together for 56 blessed years. Betty held many roles throughout the years such as bookkeeper for Irving Sporting Goods in Washington, D.C., government work for the Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland, and election precinct leader in Manassas, Virginia; but her most treasured role of all was being the wife of Bill and mother of her four children. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Betty also served as a beloved Sunday School teacher for many years. Together with her husband she was active in her local churches, first at Berean Baptist Church in Nokesville, Virginia, then at Old Dominion Baptist Church in Haymarket, Virginia, and finally at Evangel Baptist Church in Dale City, Virginia. She loved the Lord, the Word, and the old Hymns of the faith. Betty was committed to Christian education and often served as room mother at school and drove carpool. She loved doing crafts at home and church. A talented seamstress, Betty made most of her and her children's clothing, as well as her home d?cor. Her home was a place of abundant beauty as evidenced by the flowers and plants she lovingly cultivated, often canning, and preserving her bounteous harvest. Betty will be remembered for her love for her family and her home and the delicate care she took to make her home a welcoming and beautiful respite. She will be greatly missed, and her family gives thanks to God for her blessed and fruitful life.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2019, her parents Alton and Eunice Tabor, and her brother Ronald Tabor. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Vandiviere and her husband Mark, her son Donald Banker and his wife Carol, her daughter Becky Lambert and her husband Greg, her daughter Jeanne Warner, and her husband Scott.
